Visiting the interior of the Marche, with its rolling green hills, presents the perfect opportunity to regain tranquillity and harmony, you may even chance upon precious works of art, interesting historical occurrences, literary memoirs and suggestive legends. The landscape, formed by a band of hills that covers 69% of the Marche, reveals an exemplary fusion of nature and man made transformations carried out over the ages.

At times, the hills are interrupted by suggestive escarpment such as in Val Marecchia (near the ruins of the historical Rocca di Maiolo) and in the province of Ascoli Piceno (at Castignano and Appignano del Tronto). Other times, one moves from the gentleness of the hilly landscape to the sharpness of rough mountains that are carved by suggestive gorges such as the Gola del Burano, the Gola del Furlo or the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi. There are 14 Municipalities of the inland that have been awarded the Bandiere Arancioni – Orange Flags by the TCI for quality environmental tourism.
